Robert Arthur Mangum, age 79, of 120 Misty Rose Lane, died peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, July 12, 2010 at his home. He was born in Durham County and was the son of the late Walter A. Mangum, Sr., and Parthene Castle Mangum. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter A. Mangum, Jr., Thomas O. Mangum, his sisters, Betty J. Mangum West, Virginia H. Mangum, Ollie M. Mangum, and Linda F. Mangum Jackson. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from Nortel.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Dean West, Vickie West Sorrell, John West, Tim West, Kim West, Lisa Jackson, twelve great-nieces and nephews, and six great-great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the the Riverview United Methodist Church Cemetery on Orange Factory Road in Bahama. Pallbearers will be Dean West, Dean West, II, John West, Tim West, Chuck Sorrell, Chuck Sorrell II, Justin West, and Rodney Moore. The family will recieve friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Brooks and White Funeral Home and other times at his home. Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to Person County Relay For Life, P.O. Box 165, Roxboro, NC, 27573, or a charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Deborah Bradley and staff, Dr. Jason Rothman and staff, W. Robert Lee and staff, Durham Radiation Oncology Staff, Dr. Tonica Johnson and staff, and Duke Hospice for their care of Uncle Bob during his illness. |
