Wilmalean McCullough Rimmer went to rejoice and live forevermore with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 2, 2019, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She died at her home surrounded by family. Wilma was born on Mother's Day, May 9, 1943 to David Floyd and Lillie Susan Crabtree McCullough who preceded her in death. She graduated from Roxboro High School in 1961. She was married to James (Doug) Rimmer on October 31, 1961. They were married for 55 years until Doug passed away on April 8, 2017. Wilma Gave birth to her first child, Donna Susan, on September 28, 1962. Her second daughter, Deborah Kaye was born on August 7, 1965. Shortly after Deborah's birth, Wilma went to work at Eaton Corporation. She worked her way up the ladder and retired from Eaton in 2003 with 37 years of service. She did return to work at Eaton for a short time in 2005.
Wilma loved the outdoors and growing flowers and plants. Her yard was always beautiful and she was always adding new flowers and beds. She enjoyed quilting, making a quilt for both her daughters and one for each of her five grandchildren. Wilma loved and enjoyed most all sports. She played softball for many years. She loved the Carolina Tarheels. For many years she held season tickets to the Carolina football games and made many memories watching them play. She never missed watching the Tarheel basketball team play, always giving her own commentary on the players, coaches and the referees. Wilma loved good bluegrass music. She and Doug spent many Thanksgiving holidays at Myrtle Beach, SC at a bluegrass festival.
Wilma's greatest love was her family. There was no sacrifice too high for her family. She loved her husband and daughters. She is survived by both her daughters, Donna Price (Billy) and Deborah Long (Linwood) both of Hurdle Mills. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved them all so well that each believed they were her favorite. She made sure they always had everything they needed. She bought all five of her grandchildren their first cars. She and Papa (Doug) took them on trips during the summer to the beach or the mountains. She attended any activity they were involved in and they all loved their Nana. Her surviving grandchildren: Jessica Stephens (Ryan) of Durham, Jonathan Long (Hannah), Jenna Long, Dylan Price and Joseph Long, all of Hurdle Mills. Wilma had two great-grandchildren, Aubree Shay Long and Braleigh Marie Long, with a third one on the way in March. She had three step-grandchildren, Eric, BJ and Shane Price.
She also loved her siblings and enjoyed anytime she could spend with them, reminiscing, laughing, and bragging on her grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Juanita Whitfield, of Rougemont, David McCullough (Wanda) of Hurdle Mills and Danny McCullough (Amy) of Rougemont.
We that are left behind to cherish her memory will try not to dwell on our loss, but remember the beautiful blessing of having known her love and kindness.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Berry's Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Willingham. Burial will follow in Wheeler's Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
