Kelby Lane Oakley, 19, of 6504 US HWY 158 East, Leasburg, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home. Born in Durham County, he was the son of Charlie "Buck" Morris Oakley, Jr. and Tammy Cox Oakley, who survive. Kelby is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Judy Cox and paternal grandparents, Charlie "Buck" Morris Oakley, Sr. and Rosa Moore Oakley. He was a member of Leasburg United Methodist Church.
Kelby was an avid Carolina Tar Heels fan and loved all sports. He was a local ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Greensboro. Kelby loved being outdoors, blue grass music, riding four wheelers and spending time with his family and friends and his two dogs, Jax and Buck.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandfather, Fred Cox, Jr.; two brothers: Hunter Oakley and Daniel Jones and wife, Morgan, all of Leasburg; step mother, Kelli Oakley of Roxboro; step brother, L.J. Lunsford of Roxboro; one sister, Jessica Pinto and husband, Tony of Roxboro; two aunts: Jill Clayton (Todd) of Leasburg and Resa Long of Roxboro; one uncle, W.F. Cox of Leasburg; nephew, Michael Chace Pinto; nine cousins: Traci Owen (David), Stephen Long, Tanner Clayton, Collin Clayton, Kennedy Cox, Karoline Cox, Gauge Cox, Mason Owen and Kennedy Owen.
Visitation will be held 6-7:30 PM Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Leasburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Pearce and Rev. Frankie Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in the Leasburg Community Cemetery.
Please honor Kelby by wearing your Kelby Strong shirt or UNC Tar Heels attire to his funeral service.
Pallbearers will be Steven Brann, Chris Carter, Blake Coleman, Dustin Turner, Joe Mathe, Ryan McPherson, Heath Gill, Teddy Dillehay, and Chad Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Brann, Brad Carter, Walker Poteat, Christopher Crabtree, members of the Roxboro Fire Department, Leasburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Person County Sheriff's Department.
