Mildred Rhew Oliver, 96, of Timberlake passed away Friday, October 12, 2018, at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born June 11, 1922 in Durham County. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Cara Vaughan Rhew. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, R.H. Oliver, Sr., her beloved son Ralph H. Oliver, Jr., as well as five brothers, Victor Rhew, Griffin Rhew, Clifton Rhew, Alfred Rhew and two sisters, Bertha R. Thacker and Arlene R. Freeman.
Surviving are her daughter Janice Dixon Johnson, of Roxboro; daughter-in-law, Faye Fox Oliver, of Roxboro; three grandchildren, Kendall S. Oliver (Joy) of Raleigh, Bridgit W. Jones (Berk) of Roxboro, and Carole O. Boxell, of Pinehurst; four great-grandchildren, Dawson Oliver, Davis Oliver, Bricen Jones and Kaylin Boxell; a special cousin, Dalph Aiken, of Durham; and several nieces and nephews.
Mildred graduated from Helena High School. After raising her family on the farm, she later went to work at Collins & Aikman Corp., Person Mills, and Baldwin's Department Store.
She was a lifelong and devoted member of Helena United Methodist Church having sung in the choir and served on various church committees. She was the oldest living member of the church at the time of her death. She enjoyed dancing, singing, cooking stews at the church, bowling and working in her yard.
The funeral service will be at 2PM Monday, October 15, 2018, at Helena United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 14 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home from 6-7:30PM.
Pallbearers will be Larry Oakley, Ricky Chambers, Roy Brooks, Gerald Clayton, Billy Gardner, Mike Smith, Pat Rhew and Butch Thacker. Honorary pallbearers will be Elvin Royster, J.C. Woody, Dr. Jeff Kafer, Merritt Harris, and Bill Johnson.
The family will receive visitors at the home of her daughter at 425 Wimbledon Dr.
