Dolian Harris, 92, of 413 South Morgan Street, Roxboro, died Thursday, October 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late George Kitchin Harris and Sarah Virginia Montague Harris. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, who was the love of his life, Jane Kirby Harris. Mr. Harris graduated from Bethel Hill High School and attended Wake Forest College. He was the retired owner and operator of Harris Department Store and a real estate investor.

Mr. Harris was a US WWII Army veteran. He was in the 42nd Rainbow Division, I Company, 222 Infantry. He received several special medals including the Bronze Star. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Along with his unit, they liberated several concentration camps in Germany, including Dachau. Mr. Harris along with his unit, received the Presidential Citation for extraordinary Heroism in Military Operations in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Harris was elected National President of the WWII 42nd Rainbow Division Veteran's Association.

Mr. Harris was a very active member of Roxboro Baptist Church, where he served as the church treasurer for over twenty-eight years. He was the chairman of the Deacons and the Out Reach Committees.

Mr. Harris was a member of the Rotary Club of Roxboro and had perfect attendance for over 48 years. He was also a past President.

Surviving are his children: Kirby Harris and wife, Sharon of Greenville and Loudell Harris Medford and husband, Steve of Roxboro; one brother, George Harris and wife, Katherine of Roxboro; four grandchildren: Dale Kirby Harris, Courtney Harris Hardee (Trey), Candace Jane Long, and Kaitlyn Kirby Long; two step grandchildren: Brad Medford (Jen) and Taylor Medford; two great-grandchildren: Weston and Wyatt Hardee; cousin and special friend, Dr. Thomas Long, Sr.

Funeral service will be held 3 PM Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Roxboro Baptist Church with the Dr. DuPre Sanders and Rev. Ed Priestaf officiating. Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service (2-3 PM).

Pallbearers will be Dale Kirby Harris, Robert Allen, Trey Hardee, Brad Medford, Joey Kirby, Mike Long, Dr. Steve Long, Mark Long, Dr. Tom Long, and Eddie Lytle. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rotary Club of Roxboro, West Barracco Sunday School Class, and Dr. Claudia Berryhill.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Person Memorial Hospital, and Amedisys Hospice.
