Shelby Jean Shields Dixon

Mrs. Dixon was born September 16, 1937 to the late Henry Edward and Barsh McCann Shields.

She was married for 61 years to the love of her life, Lawrence Edward Dixon, who survives. She was the loving mother to three children, Russell Dixon of Oxford, Lisa Dixon Davis (Richard) of Roxboro and Anita Dixon of Oxford. She also loved her grandchildren, Julie Davis Henderson (Jamie) and Kendall Davis. They were her special joy and always brought a smile to her face.

Her siblings are Docie Kimball (Keith), Rosa James (Michael), Roland Shields (Libby), Cynthia Shields and Vennoy Shields (deceased). She had a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dixon was employed by CCB as a loan officer, and later moved to Roxboro Savings Bank where she held the position of CFO until her retirement.

Outside of her professional life, in her younger years, Mrs. Dixon spent quite a bit of time with the youth of her community and church. For many years she was the leader of the Pacesetters 4-H group whose members became a choir of young people that performed at numerous gospel sings throughout the county. In addition, she led the youth at her home church (Sharon Baptist), in choir, VBS and Sunday School. She also sang in the Adult Choir and taught Adult Sunday School. One of the delights of her life were the family camping trips/lake days at Kerr Lake. These lake trips also drew many youth from within the church, and she was always welcoming of other campers whom she didnít know, to join in the fun!

Mrs. Dixon lived on and loved the peace and serenity of the farm, where her husband and family raised tobacco for many years and continue to raise livestock. She always believed in learning for herself and others. She read everything she could as this helped her to explore faraway places and to absorb the information she needed to teach others at work, church, and home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Sharon Baptist Church 6746 Goshen Rd, Oxford, NC by the Rev. Victor Blackwell and the Rev. Vernon Wilkerson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Sharon Baptist Church and at other times at the home located at 7128 Lester McFarland Rd, Oxford, NC.
