Susie Elizabeth Braddy Dunn, 88, of Roxboro, died Sunday, June 10, 2018 while in care at Duke Hospice in Durham, NC. Born in Edgecombe County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Braddy and Lucy Clark Braddy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael Walter Dunn, brother, William Earl Braddy and sister, Lucy Mae Hale.

Susie received her nursing degree from Roanoke Rapids Nursing School. In 1951, she began her career at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro. Often she shared her medical & caring skills to individual members of the community. She also volunteered as a Hospice caregiver from 1992- 2002.

Susie devoted her time and energy in taking care of her special loved ones during her marriage of 65 years to Burley. She organized get togethers with her family and friends at Lake Hyco and the Mabry Mill mountain house. She enjoyed cooking delicious southern meals, planting beautiful flowers, and encouraging hummingbirds.

Susie's greatest legacy is her committment as a devoted Christian and servant of Jesus Christ. She has been a member over 60 years at Providence Baptist Church providing service in Sunday School, WMU, circle groups, Vacation Bible School, and choir. A favorite scripture passage from 1 Corinthians 13 includes: Love is patient. Love is kind. And now these three remain faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Surviving are her husband, Burley W. Dunn of the home; daughter, Susan Dunn McBride and husband, Thomas David McBride of Winston Salem and son, Robin Albert Dunn and wife, Janet Lynn Dunn of Alton, VA; two brothers: Bruce Braddy of Newport News, VA and Claude Braddy, Jr. of Tarboro; two grandchildren: Sean Thomas McBride and Megan Elizabeth McBride and fiancÚ, Will Diachenko, all of Raleigh and one step-grandchild, Cassie Lee Snead of Alton, VA.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis McDonald officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Baptist Church, 1319 Virgilina Road, Roxboro, NC 27573 or the Duke Hospice at Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, NC 27704.
