Mary Sue Stewart Martin, 95, of Virgilina, died Friday, June 8, 2018. Born in Halifax County, VA, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late James William and Harriett Stuart Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Martin, her daughter, Phyllis Martin, her grandson, Douglas Neal Epps, three sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and caregiver for her mother and daughter Phyllis. She was the oldest member of Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and held many positions including WMU Director, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Mrs. Martin was an avid quilter making her own patterns sometimes giving her knowledge of quilt making to others.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her children and their spouses, Edith Shepherd, of Richmond, VA, Ray and Bobbie Martin, of Edenton, GA, Sam and Fay Martin, of Roxboro, Winnie and Tommy Epps and Sarah and Donald Kennedy, all of Richmond, VA and Kirt and Laurie Martin, of Roxboro; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Stewart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-7:30PM Sunday, Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Sam & Fay Martin, 515 High Plains Rd.

Pallbearers will be Chris Martin, Tom Epps, Wesley Martin, James Martin, Mark Hamlett, and Ron Garrett. Jared Stewart will be an honorary pallbearer.
