Russell James Ferguson, 94, formerly of 2604 Burlington Road, Roxboro, died Friday, March 16, 2018. He was the son of the late, Fredrick Ferguson and Mabel Johnson Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Singleton Ferguson and two sisters: Lavella Poler and Wanda Poler. Mr. Ferguson was a member of Warren's Grove United Methodist Church.

Mr. Ferguson was a WWII Army Veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from Tar Heel Chevrolet after working as a mechanic for over 25 years. Mr. Ferguson loved camping and had camped in almost every state in the United States. He also enjoyed hunting. Mr. Ferguson was a kind hearted and gentle man.

Surviving are his three children: Larry R. Ferguson and wife, Thea of Tucson, AZ, Brad J. Ferguson and wife, Barbara of Wake Forest, and Diane F. Moore and husband, Robert of Roxboro; four siblings: Shirley Bragg of AR, Kathleen Tostenson, of MN, Carney Ferguson of IN, and Pat Everson of WI; seven grandchildren: Guy Ferguson (Bonnie), Fred Ferguson (Sally), Joe Ferguson (Heather), Beth Champion (Chad), Robin Moore, Russell Moore (Julia), and Angela Meeler (Jeremy); twelve great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 3 PM Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Warren's Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ann Benson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall and other times at the home of his daughter, Diane F. Moore (949 Flat River Church Road).

The family would like to extend special appreciation and thanks to the staff at Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.
