Joseph Rainey Norris, 102, of 384 Walnut Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his home. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Charlie Norris and Artelia Brown Norris. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his five brothers: Hubert, Herman, Arthur, Dallas and David Norris; three sisters: Renie Norris, Annie Lou N. Parker and Lottie N. Walsh; five nephews.

Mr. Norris was an Army Veteran in WWII where he served in battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award.

Surviving are his brother, Hassel Vernon Norris of McLeansville, four nieces and nine nephews.

Funeral service will be 3 PM Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. John Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow in the Norris Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Barry J. Norris, Phillip W. Norris, Howard Parker, Bruce Walsh, Ronald Norris and Bernice Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Walsh, Dennis Norris and Dale Norris.
