Leman Ferris Wilson, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Person Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 23, 1925 in Stovall, NC to the late Joshua Ferris Wilson and Grace Eudailey Wilson. He was preceded in death by a sister Priscilla W. Parsons.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Imogene Ramsey Wilson and his daughter, Janice Lee Wilson of Raleigh, NC.

Leman and his family moved to Roxboro in 1934. He graduated from Roxboro High School in the Class of 1942. He attended North Carolina State College and was drafted into the U. S. Army after his freshman year of college.

After basic training he was deployed to England and was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division. He took part in the invasion of Normandy in June of 1944, followed by the Northern France Campaign and the Rhineland Campaign, earning the service medals of three bronze service stars, Combat Infantry Badge and World War II Victory Medal. After leaving the 4th Infantry Division, he served under U. S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in Paris, France and Frankfort, Germany.

Leman returned home after the war where he worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier on Rural Route 1 until Roxboro’s three rural routes were divided and formed Rural Route 4. Leman served Rural Route 4 for his remaining 38 years of service.

He was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church where services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017 with Rev. Jeff Nash and Rev. Tom Loftis officiating. Visitation will be held following the service in the fellowship hall.
