Talmadge Buster Whitlow, 83, of Roxboro died Wednesday, June 28, 2017. He was born at home in Person County to the late Harvey Wright Whitlow and Victoria Sheilds Whitlow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Charlie Mae McKinney Whitlow; two children, Pamela Bailey and Rita Rothrock; son-in-law, G.E. Bailey; granddaughter, Victoria Elaine Clayton; and a brother, Graley Whitlow.

Mr. Whitlow was a graduate of Bethel Hill in 1952 a Hilltopper. He retired from John Umpstead Hospital as a carpenter, was a construction supervisor at Brown & Root, and supervised construction of Dean E. Smith Center UNC-Chapel Hill. Mr. Whitlow was a Christian and lifelong member of High View Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and member of the High View Quartet. He had excellent barritone and tenor voice. Part of his service to the Lord included a mission trip to Costa Rica. Mr. Whitlow was an owner/farmer of a sixth generation farm where he spent his lifetime breeding, raising, and breaking horses and mules to saddle or harness to ride for show or pleasure, or to pull/plow equipment and wagons. He enjoyed wagon trains, trail rides, parades, horse shows, horse sales, restoring and building horse drawn buggies and wagons, making harness and tack, and caring for his mules. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, as well as being a Champion Coon Hunter. Mr. Whitlow was an avid reader and family historian. He loved his family and loved his Lord.

Surviving are four children, Rodney Lynn Whitlow, Wright Everette Whitlow (Sue), Rebecca Whitlow Mangum (Sonny), and Melissa Bailey Barts (Chris), all of Roxboro; son-in-law, Kenneth Rothrock, Esq., of Hillsborough; two brothers, Alvin Whitlow (Patricia) of Roxboro and Jackie Mark Whitlow of Burlington; one sister, Miranda Helfter (Bob) of Oak Island; sister-in-law, Brenda Whitlow of Roxboro; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, July 3, 2017 at High View Baptist Church with the Rev. Avery Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service and other times at the home of his son, Wright Whitlow, 1191 High View Church Road.
