Eugene D. “Gene” Pearson, 87, of Charles Town died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at his residence under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born Oct. 31, 1929 in New York City, New York. He was the son of Agusta Barreau Pearson. He was raised by his aunt, Joan Barreau.

Mr. Pearson retired from the United States Department of Defense, having worked in Defense Mapping.

He was a member of Way of Faith Church, Fairfax, Virginia.

He graduated from Brooklyn Tech, Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Pearson graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and graduated from George Washington University with a Masters Degree in business.

He is survived by his daughters, Catherine P. Byrd and husband Everette, of Vienna, Virginia, Cynthia P. Thompson and husband Phil, of Idyllwild, California, Tyra P. Clough, of Lewes, Delaware, son, Robert L. Scott and Brian Mays, of Richmond, Virginia; grandson, Scott Thompson and his beloved dog and companion “Sweetie”.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helen Scott Pearson who died Sept. 6, 2002 and grandson, Branden Thompson.

The Family wishes to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the Home Instead, WVU Health Care and Hospice of the Panhandle for the gracious and loving care extended to Mr. Pearson during the past few months.

Services will be held at 1PM Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at Lebanon Christian Church, 349 Cunningham Road, Semora, North Carolina.

Interment will be in Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery in Semora.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, WV and there will also be a visitation at the Lebanon Church in Semora, NC on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service
