Alma Lee Harris Woody, 87, affectionally known as "Nana" to her grandchildren and "Dee" to her nieces and nephews passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Roxboro, NC. Born and raised in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late Draper and Mabel Berry Harris. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Frances H. Goodwyn and Virginia Holleman.

Alma taught school in Granville and Durham Counties before retiring from Person County School System, she taught for a total of 31 years and was a faithful member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and was a member of the Ca-Vel Baptist Church Choir. In addition to being a member of the Roxboro Community Choir. She graduated from Durham High School and studied at Mars Hill Baptist University having earned her Associate of Arts degree and also graduated from the University of Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Alma is survived by her three children, John Walker Woody, Jr., Linda Leigh Woody Gentry (Rickey), and Mark Harris Woody all of Roxboro. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Adam Woody, Robert Woody, Morgan Leigh Gentry, and Christopher Johnson Gentry, and two great-grandchildren, John Woody, III and Caiden Penny Gentry, the loves of her life.

In her retirement years, Alma enjoyed traveling and participating actively in the lives of her grandchildren. She loved to play the piano, read, and watch old movies.

The funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Ca-Vel Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Long presiding. Burial will follow in the Berry's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Frank Shotwell, Huel Howerton, Paul Stewart, Pat Cozart, Larry Holloman, and Marcus Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Harmon and Dave Chestnut.
